NPNP Train 42 Stalled at Stampede
NP Train No 42 with Locomotive 2184 stalled in deep snow one mile west of Stampede Pass in February 1916. Train then hit by slide causing Engine, Baggage and Chair car to lean over. This view shows baggage car leaning. Train had left Seattle and Tacoma Tuesday night (Feb. 1, 1916), scheduled through East Auburn at 5:35pm and Stampede at 8:05pm. Was stalled in the deep snow by Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 2). Cont'd in notes.

Meanwhile Train No 2,the eastbound NCL, had left Tuesday after No 42 and was scheduled through East Auburn at 8:00pm, Lester at 9:42pm and was either stalled or held at Lester. The line was cleared at 2pm Friday. No 42's passengers were transferred to Train No 2 (above) arriving at Ellensburg Friday evening (Feb. 4). No 2 then left Ellensburg shortly after 6pm Friday.
