The NPRHA Research web site is made up of a
home page and several document libraries, picture libraries and lists. Across
the top of EVERY page is a navigation bar with Home, Research and Store listed.
If you get lost on the site or just want to start over, simply click the
Research button at the top of the page. It’s also a good idea to add
the home page of the NPRHA to the Favorites list in your browser to that you
can easily return to the site if you navigate away from the site. There are
three ways to find what you’re looking for on the Research site.
Left-Menu Navigation
– You can navigate to a resource by using the left navigation bar (menu)
on the Research Home page. The menu is labeled “Quick Launch”. Just
look down the list for the resource or topic that interests you.
Word Search
– You can use the Word Search function to find all the resources on the
Research site. A search field appears in the upper right-hand corner of the
Research Home page and on each the document library, picture library or list
page that you select from the left-menu. The Search box looks like this:
To use the search box, put one word in the text box and click the
green “Go” button (hitting Enter works on some systems). Note, the site does not support complex word search like Google
or other search engines. Basically, this site allows one word to be searched at
a time. Once the search results are returned to you, you have 10 resources to
select from, and then a “Next” button on the lower right to see
other items if there were more than 10 matches. To view a resource for which a
match was found, just click the hyperlink for that item.
If you start your search from ANY page other than the Research Home
page of the web site, you only search the contents of that list, document
library or picture library. However, when you start your search on the Research
Home page, you will receive return records for a particular word from the
entire web site. So if you search for “
Column Filtering – When a document
library, picture library or list page is opened in a detail or list view, each
of the columns may be filtered to see an alphabetical list of the contents of
the column and to select any of the items on the list. When an item is selected, the function
will return all of the records on the page that contain
the selected item. After one column has been filtered, you may use the same
process to further refine the returns using other columns until you find the
specific thing that you want. Note that column filtering can not be used to
further refine the Word Search returns directly, but you can use the word
search results to refine a second word search or to direct a column filtering
session.
